The past 3 of April of 2019 marked the 40th anniversary of the first local elections in Spain. Sponsored by the Local Government and the Changing Urban-Rural Interplay project (European Commission 823961 – LoGov), professors Tinashe Chigwata (UWC-Cape Town) and Alfonso Egea (UAM-Madrid)  visited the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP) headquarters in Madrid. We met Mercedes Sánchez, Deputy Director of International Relations, to address the issues on the political agenda of FEMP.

Senior researcher Tinashe visited the mayor, Juan Lobato, of a 9.000 inhabitants town in the north of Madrid. They mainly talked about the innovative citizens’ participation scheme of the town, on the water supply and on the finsnce of the town.
